Died Saturday from — wait for it — pneumonia. How the hell does a millionaire die from pneumonia? At first I was a bit perplexed, but then I read that he suffered from some disease that severely affects his immune system. Tough break, man (respectfully).
Isaac Hayes (1942-2008)
He was found passed out near his treadmill. He died an hour later at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
Okay… let’s now add to this the long list of celebrity deaths this year:
Heath Ledger
Tim Russert
Charlton Heston
Bill O’Reilly (Okay, wishful thinking)
Sydney Pollack
Harvey Korman
George Carlin
…and those are only a few. What is going on here? I understand that death is a normal and inevitable part of one’s life, and that celebrities, though ridiculously wealthy, also must kick the bucket… but why are so many of them dying this year? I can’t recall ever seeing so many famous names pop up online with that dismal (19##-2008) following them. Do the celebrities know something that we don’t know? Are they cashing in their chips to go meet up with good ‘ole L. Ron Hubbard for a reason? Oh my God, is something really devastating about to happen to us all? Whoa, hold on a sec… are the terrorists going to attack again?! Is that what it is?! THAT’S WHAT IT IS ISN’T IT! HOLY CRAP… HOW DID THEY KNOW?!
Christians. Why the hell can’t they just leave everyone to worship — or not worship — in their own way. Why do they have to do things like protest at Heath Ledger’s funeral because he portrayed a homosexual in a movie? Why do they feel obligated to stand outside of public places handing out leaflets that tell us why we will be going to hell if we don’t take Jesus into our hearts? Why can’t they just mind their own business and focus on THEIR OWN relationship with God?
I’m trying not to get really angry here. Religion and I have had our issues for quite some time. It all stems from that time when Religion and I were downing shots of Tequila and chasing them with Bourbon. I don’t know how it happend, but somehow we got on the topic of my mother, and Religion started making up all these rude things about her. I won’t go into details but I will say that we haven’t spoken since. DAMN YOU, RELIGION! I AM NOT ADOPTED! MY MOTHER IS A SAINT!
I’m done kidding. Here is the real reason for this post: a video of some Christian asshole whose name I will not bother to commit to memory. He goes on this whole rant about how George Carlin is burning in Hell, and how he is begging for God’s mercy… so on and so forth. It’s psychotic.
For the first time in our nations history an African-American has taken the Democrat nomination (presumtively). Wow… I still can’t believe that this is happening. It’s no secret that I am a hard-core Barack Obama supporter, and I am so happy to report that he will likely get the nomination of my political party. He’s about to speak on CNN right now so I won’t take long here. No words can possibly describe how overwhelmingly amazing this is. As I said in the title of this post: we are living history!!!
Expect me to post his, and possibly Senator Clinton’s, speeches here in an update to come later tonight.
[UPDATE] Here you go, the greatest speech I’ve ever heard. I watched it last night with Dina and D’Anna, and by the end of it we were all hugging like idiots.
I shudder when thinking that I’m in the same party as Senator Hillary Clinton. I know that, after what she said today, there is no chance I would ever even consider casting a vote for this woman. She seemed to single out Barack Obama as a possible target for assassination for Christ’s sake!
I watched “Countdown” twice tonight on MSNBC. I also flipped in-between CNN and that network just to be sure that I wasn’t missing anything. The general consensus is that… um… she messed upbig time.
I’ve always loved Keith Olbermann’s “Countdown” program. I guess the reason why I love it is because he is so intense in the way he reports (though not in a moronic intensity like Bill O’Reilly… God, I hate Fox News). Here is his view (thanks to msnbc.com for being badass enought to allow bloggers to embed your videos!):
Expect more from me on this issue once I hear Senator Clinton really speak about it… I’m not going to acknowledge her half-assed attempt to say, “Me so sorry.” I’ll wait until she apologizes directly to Barack.
Today Heath Ledger would have been 29 years old. It’s still difficult for me to accept the fact that he’s dead. I’m not one of those fanatic people who look at movie starts as glimmering gods, but Heath was a great actor and was taken from us long before his time should have been up. Rest in peace, man.
Oh, and if you’re wondering why I choose to put a picture of him as The Joker as the head of this post and not a picture of him in street clothes or on the red carpet, all I can say is that this is the role he will be most remembered by. He’s going to be brilliant in The Dark Knight.
