“The Real Earl…”

Earl Yorke began writing when he was 13 years old. It was when his seventh grade English teacher, Brenda Lewis, gave his class a short-story assignment that he came to discover an obsessive love for the art of story-telling. For Earl, a three to five page assignment became a 22 page tale that told of how the Grim Reaper, having grown tired of being forced to carry souls into the afterlife, took over the body and life of a man named John Ford (a character who has appeared in every single manuscript he has written since). It was a story that earned him an A+, and the chance to be mentored by his teacher, who nurtured his craft by helping him through several after-school revision sessions. One year, and 13 short stories later, he completed his first manuscript, “The Hyperbeing.”
Earl has completed six unpublished manuscripts to date, and is currently working on a seventh titled, “A New Kind of Low.” He is also working to complete a screenplay adaptation of one of his favorite stories, “The Dominance Flush,” in hopes that it will become a case-study for NATPE.
The major themes that emerge most prominently in Earl’s stories include religion, and the natures of evil, madness, and obsession. His meticulous focus on plot and character development remains one of his greatest strengths as an up-and-coming novelist in genres including Horror, Science Fiction, Psychological Thrillers, Drama, and Mystery. With each manuscript he challenges himself to do something unlike anything he has done before, an example of which is taking the first-person perspective of a female in “The Dominance Flush.”
Earl lives in Cape Neddick, Maine with his wife Dina, their three year-old son, Cedric, and his step-children Taran and D’anna. He enjoys reading, mountain-biking, and of course relaxing at night in front of his latest hand-written rough draft with a glass of wine and a Maduro cigar. His greatest writing influences include Kurt Vonnegut, Stephen King, and George Orwell.
Earl’s partner in crime through all of this is Jeff Greenfield, the executive VP of Branded Entertainment firm 1st Approach. Jeff has been working with him for more than a year, helping to get his work out in both screenplay and novel form.
