Happy Independence Day, everybody! I hope that over this four-day weekend we all considered the example set by “The Simpsons:”

“What better way to celebrate the independence of our country than by blowing up a small part of it?!”

Hehehe. I couldn’t resist, though here in Maine fireworks are illegal. Does that ever stop those of us resourceful enough to drive a short 40 minutes to Seabrook, New Hampshire? Um… no! I’ll tell you, once you get off exit 1 near the Massachusetts border and hit route one in that town you realize exactly how nice your own home town is. The entire strip is fireworks store, after fireworks store, after strip-club, after smoke-shop, after firework store, after adult book and video store… so classy.

If you’re ever in the area looking for harmless explosives, and you find yourself a bit intimidated by the overall shadiness that most of the firework stores give off, I highly recommend Phantom Fireworks. It is a very clean, well organized store that gives off a kind of “Wal-Mart of Fireworks” vibe. We had a nice shopping experience there, though I was a bit upset by the fact that bottle-rockets and good-ole’ firecrackers are now illegal in New Hampshire. I don’t know how long this law has been in effect, but I seem to remember being able to buy them the last time I went down there… I believe it was three or four years ago.

Despite being bottle-rocket-less, we were still able to put on a decent show for my three year-old son with Roman Candles and Fountain Fireworks. He was very content with it, and to my wife and I, that was all that mattered.

Hope that you all had a great holiday!
