The following is taken from the journal of Earl Yorke, January 20, 2003:
Looks like we’re going to get our first major snowfall in two weeks (damn it!). Just when I thought that this winter might not be too bad, the snow comes back.
I’m sitting in the car outside of Sally Beauty Supply, waiting for Dina to finish her comb-and-brush shopping. She’s been reading “The Dominance Flush” over the last few days… since she noticed that I hadn’t been working on it very much as of late, and wants to make sure I’m not giving up on a “good one,” as she puts it. I find that I am usually better off leaving decisions like that to her… having others read my work is really the only efficient way for me to decide whether or not to abandon certain projects.
After this stop we will drive up to Cape Neddick to check the mail. I haven’t recieved a single response from any of the agencies in nearly two weeks, and I admit that this makes me both excited and fearful. I find myself wondering if I will EVER hear from them now. Being a writer is a very stressful thing… it requires a great deal of patience in addition to unfaltering optimism (which I have yet to balance with my nagging pessimism).
Am I really good enough? I wish these pages could tell me, but unfortunately they are only silent listeners…
